ReplyDeleteBoth are currently on the Inactive List. Kofi will return the the Rankings when they are updated next as he has returned to action this week.
ReplyDeleteLove this site! I'm very impressed how well your ranking system works.
ReplyDeleteThere are one or two improvements I would make - TNA micarders seem doomed since almost any match-up will result in a net loss of points - but I am impressed with your ingenuity and dedication. The results are far more accurate than the FIFA soccer world rankings and arguably the tennis ones.
THANKS! Glad you like it! It's been a labor of love for a while now. You make a good point that I've been noticing for a while, since WWE has SO much more tv time than TNA, ROH, or the lucha promotions the WWE wrestlers have way more chances to pick up points than the other wrestlers. [When I first developed the point scale WWE did not have as much tv]. On the downside the WWE wrestlers also have way more chances to LOSE points, so I guess it kind of evens out. a little! Thanks again for your input, I REALLY appreciate it! Please feel free to give me any feedback anytime! Have a great day!
DeleteThanks for replying - great to get a message from you.
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth, here are my two suggestions. You could:
(1) Stretch out the point scale a bit so that you get 16 points for beating someone ranked, say, 60ish rather than 30ish. That would give non-WWE wrestlers more chance to get serious points. With over 200 wrestlers in the ranking, it seems like you should get a bit more credit for beating no 100 than no 150 or 200.
(2) At the start of each year, reduce ALL points by 25% or even 50%. That would make less active wrestlers' points gradually ebb away, so it would be more possible for fresh competitors to climb the rankings without relying on the temporary bonus points. At the moment wrestlers like Mark Henry and Del Rio (not to single anyone out, I love Mark Henry) are sitting on big piles of points they won ages ago, clogging up the higher ranking spots, which they don't really deserve based on their current standing.
H!! Two really great suggestions! I'll be away this weekend, so I'll get back to you in more detail next week but I just wanted you to know I read your comment. Thanks again for your input and have a great weekend!
DeleteHi again. On reflection I think my second suggestion is better than the first one. Changing the points scale might be dangerous but I do think people who had success a few years ago should have to keep adding fresh wins to keep their place.
DeleteHi James, sorry I took so long to get back to you. As I said before, 2 excellent suggestions! The first has actually been in the works for a while now. I was originally going to hold off and introduce the new point scale in Jan 2015 to start it in a new year, then decided to introduce it sooner, but I think it will start in July. [thanks for the push!] It seems like we are pretty much thinking alike on this one. The top 10 will stay the same, but from 11 on the points will change in increments of 10 instead of 5. So a win over the #100 wrestler will be worth 12 instead of 3. A victory over 200 will be worth 3. This should help even things out a bit. [When I first started this only WWE and TNA wrestlers were ranked, I did not anticipate SO many wrestlers on the Rankings!]
DeleteAs far as the 2nd suggestion, I have something kind of similar in mind. In Jan, 2014 I started keeping seperate stats solely for matchs occurring in 2014. It's a whole seperate ranking that I'll publish at the end of the year. Surprisingly, [to me anyway] Sheamus actually has the most points so far among the men].
Again, thank you VERY much for your input, I can see you have a really good understanding of this whole system...keep in touch!
Very interesting! I'm quite flattered to hear that you'd been thinking along the same sort of lines.
DeleteThe 2014-only ranking is a good idea. I think Sheamus deserves his place at the top as he wrestles a lot more than Cena and Orton do, and usually wins (plus he's the US Champ). Rusev must be high up as well, right?
Rusev is currently in 9th place so far in 2014. I'm sure he'll move even higher now that he's taking on higher ranked competition [ex.
DeleteBig E Langston].
Brock Lesnar's a tricky case, isn't he? He's obviously in contention with the top guys, but if he only wrestles every couple of months then he can't get the points to reflect it.
ReplyDeleteI wonder whether you might consider making a rule that when a wrestler has bonus points, some proportion of them (maybe 10%) get turned into permanent points at the end of every month. That way if a wrestler like Lesnar beats Cena and gets a 3000+ pt bonus, he'll keep some of the credit for his big victory even if/when he eventually goes inactive again.
That's one I've been going back and forth on for years! I had a couple ideas I've kicked around. [Your percentage idea is VERY interesting!]. One thought was to make the bonus points permanent if the wrestler held them for a couple of months, but that did not seem fair to the other wrestlers. Another was to make a percentage of the points permanent with each successive win. My most recent idea was to make the bonus points permanent if the wrestler won a world title [this would obviously be the case with Lesnar after Summer Slam]. Every time I'm ready to go with one of the ideas I than think : if the wrestler only wrestles part time he should not be an exception to any other wrestler. As you say...VERY tricky!
DeleteI don't know why I check this site at least once a month. Good stuff. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteTHANKS! I appreciate it!
